The TEACHER APPRECIATION SUPPORT PROGRAMME (TASP) is a stakeholder-driven project in which NAPTOSA, together with other Unions, the DBE, SACE, ELRC and Governing Body Associations raise awareness and educate the public on the important role teachers have in the development of the nation. In light of this the “JUNE 16 COMMEMORATION BY YOUNG TEACHERS” competition/project designed to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of 16 June-Youth Day. The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has called on young teachers (35 years or younger) to participate in the "June 16 Commemoration by Young Teachers" competition. There are three categories of entry: 1) an essay; 2) art work; and 3) for those who are technically inclined: posters, and/or audio/video clips of their work. NB! Closing date for entries is 27 May 2016. PED's will select ten (10) teachers from their entrants who will join the Minister of Basic Education, at a seminar on 15 June 2016* to commemorate the event where the teachers will: * Present/Display their work and their reflections of the meaning of June 16 in their lives- in a seminar- and what the country can do to keep the legacy; * Teachers will be available to talk about their entries in a walk about; and
* Accompany the Minister to the Hector Peterson tombstone and lay wreaths in commemoration of the fallen youth.
Finally, a book will be published out of the contributions from young teachers and will be launched by the Minister during the 2016 World Teachers' Day celebrations. * Travel and accommodations costs will be carried by the DBE
