The Department of Basic Education has recently re-launched their National Recruitment Database of Qualified South African Educators. This database is available for download from our website and lists the details of educators who are currently seeking employment across all provinces.

Almost 4,000 teachers have registered on the Department of Basic Education National Recruitment Database launched two years ago. Close to 1,000 of them have found new jobs already.

Unemployed teachers, or those who had left the profession, are being encouraged to submit their details, qualifications and areas of expertise. Schools and school governing bodies looking for teachers can access this information.

In March, a report by the Centre for Development and Enterprise revealed that there would be a severe shortage of foundation phase teachers by 2020 if the number of recruits continued to drop. About 30,000 new teachers are needed over 12 years to meet demand.
