Media Release: NAPTOSA Extends Well-Wishes to the NSC "Class of 2016"

Dr Anthea Cereseto, President of the National Professional Teachers’ Organisation of South Africa (NAPTOSA), extends well-wishes to the “Class of 2016” on the commencement of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination.

The 2016 NSC examinations began on Wednesday 19 October, when  some candidates sat for Computer Applications Technology (CAT). The majority of the Full-Time and Part-Time candidates will officially begin their examinations on Wednesday, 26 October 2016.

Dr Cereseto said that the learners must endeavour to produce good results as the outcome of this examination will determine their life chances. NAPTOSA advises learners who are experiencing difficulty during this examination to seek assistance from the many organisations offering support.

NAPTOSA hopes the focused “intervention programmes” implemented by the Department of Basic Education, aimed at supporting learners, will come to fruition through the learners’ performance, said Dr Cereseto. It is also imperative that the contributions of the teachers over the years, and especially those in the FET Phase, be acknowledged, she added.

NAPTOSA would be amiss if it did not also acknowledge all the Examination Directorates, Nationally and Provincially as well as the Umalusi officials who will manage the 2016 NSC examination, said Dr Cereseto. Their unrelenting contribution toward the NSC examination is recognised and appreciated by NAPTOSA. As for parents, NAPTOSA wishes to thank them for the encouragement and support they have given their children to reach this milestone, she added.

NAPTOSA wishes to commend the National Parliamentary Portfolio Committee that conducted onsite inspections and audits of storage and exam facilities that will undoubtedly contribute to minimising leakage and improving exam credibility. Provincial Departments, in particular, need to be commended for the exemplary preparations for the examination, said Dr Cereseto.

Dr Cereseto expressed appreciation to all the teachers and community at large who positively intervened to rescue the dire situation brought on by the Vuwani crisis.

In conclusion NAPTOSA wishes to encourage all learners and officials at all levels and processes of the examination to act with integrity and not compromise the credibility of the NSC examination.

End of Statement.
